The fact is every breath you take increases you risk of dying as it makes you one breath closer to the last one you will take.  Like others have said "everything causes cancer".  The cool thing is, a lot of research is being done with vaccines, among other avenues, that may make some cancers curable.  We live in strange times.

I just hope we aren't about to become "immortal" just in time to live in a 15th century economy.  At least brewers were valued by the ruling class.  WE ARE THE 6.4%ABV!!!  8^)

I think I have a package of bacon in the freezer.  Mmmmmm...

Where the heck are we going?  And what's with this hand basket?

I expect there's some cause versus correlation issues at play here, where cancer risks increase with obesity, obese people eat more sausage etc.  Everything in moderation (except bacon and IPA) and we'll be fine...

research labs wanting to make sure they get their funding, they'll publish anything that gets them that money.
Speaking from experience, that is not true.  There are some unscrupulous people out there who will lie and twist their research, but there are many many more who will not.  I know that first hand.

There are people who will do anything for money in every kind of job all over the world.  You just can't paint the rest of them with that broad of a brush.

Life causes cancer.  Stop worrying about it.

The link isn't nearly as clear as cigarettes/cancer.  How many smokey bars do you play Ron? :)

None...Delaware is a smoke free state.  :)
Good for you :)

Also note, didn't it say these people ate bacon every day and only had a 29% increase?  Most of us don't eat bacon that much.

Yep.  I don't even recall the last time I ate bacon.  The thing that caught my eye was pancreatic cancer.  I don't know if you've ever known anyone who's had it but it's a particularly nasty form of cancer.

I haven't known anyone who had it, but I know it has very low survival rates.  I do, after all, teach classes on the medical literature :)

The only people I know (so far) that have died of cancer were a friend from college (brain tumor at ~24) and a girl I used to work with (mouth cancer at ~30 - a non-tobacco user).  Ask me again in a few months, and we'll tack on colon/ovarian cancer.  National survival rates mean little, but those individual ones are tragic.

I eat bacon almost every day, and I don't expect I'll stop based on this. What the hell, I'm already banking on artificial liver technology. ;)
Beer is like porn. You can buy it, but it's more fun to make your own.

My uncle died of pancreatic cancer last year. It was very sad, very quick and very painful and I hope I never know anyone who ever gets it again, most especially wife,m my kids or myself.

Also last time I checked bacon was a vegetable. I pick mine from wild bacon trees in a local rain forest.

Hot dog! I knew bacon was a food group (at the top of the pyramid btw), but now I find out it grows on trees too!  Dang,  living here where there are three growing seasons a year...  I gotta get me some of those!!!

The sun causes cancer, too, and probably in higher percentages than bacon...  Hmmm, maybe if I eat bacon in the sunlight, they'll cancel each other out? ;)
