I keep both handy and alternate on an ad hoc basis.

I do the same.  Changing up the sanitizer periodically is a good practice for avoiding infections in my opinion.

ahh that makes sense then. I guess I either have been using it correctly or have no ability to taste idophor in beer. I usually mix it so there is a visible tint to the water but if it's iced tea it's iced green tea and weak at that.

When mixed in the correct concentration of 12.5 ppm, it definitely has a tint to it.  Nothing to worry about...

If want to go really cheap, I like using a pH adjusted bleach solution. I heard about it in an interview with Charlie Talley from 5 star. At the proper dilution (1oz bleach + 1oz vinegar per 5 gallons) it's a no-rinse sanitizer. It goes bad after about 8 hours though, so I only use it every few batches. Just be sure not to mix the bleach and vinegar directly. Dilute one in water before adding the other.

I started using it when I developed a house bug after exclusively using starsan for a couple years. After using the BWV sanitizer my issues went away.
