America has embraced craft beer and homebrewing, so, as long as the NHC remains primarily a hombrewer's conference, I'd be OK with growth as long as it doesn't turn into a brewfest overrun with local college kids looking to party like the GABF has become.

You'll have to do it like the old MacWorld conferences...one for the East, one for the West and everyone in the middle can decide which one to go to.

I can't imagine the local efforts necessary to put one of these things on; even if there is demand among AHA members are there really enough volunteers in more than a handful of cities to put on a bigger conference?  I suppose we'll likely find out in coming years.

I don't think there's any danger of conferences with less than 200 people again!

cheers--

From a workload perspective, this year the AHA has taken a great role in reducing the amount of work that the local committee has to undertake.  There has been a great push towards "keep it simple."  There is a lot of effort that can be put into a conference that really doesn't add much benefit.  As this year's conference co-organizer, I appreciate the effort that has been put into managing the scope of the conference.

I think as the conference continues to evolve, they'll be able to shape the scope of the local committee's roles even better to make it even smoother and more managable, despite growth.

Basically, as long as you've got a good community that get get some beer ready, you can pull it off.

Not the news I wanted to wake up to today!
The NHC is finally in my backyard, one city away and now, after renewing my membership, I see that's it's sold out!
It's not a good day!  :'(

I bet they will.  Life gets in the way sometimes or some may have bought they ticket and then realized how much it's going to cost in the end ( airfare & hotel ) and decide not to go.  Good luck.

I guess given that there's a waitlist, there must be some procedure for refunding or transferring a reservation. Does anyone know for sure?

I think the AHA and the GC are committed to making sure that doesn't happen.  I will personally do all I can to maintain NHC as a homebrewer's conference.

If nothing else, I'm pretty sure the registration fee will keep the college kids out.
