IMO, most people who have problems with their "backs" also tend to have problems with their "fronts" (i.e., big flabby bellies).

Prevention is key:  Strengthen the core.

My back is killing me.  All I did was get out of bed the other day  Seriously.  That's it. 

Sounds like tight hamstrings.  Gotta stretch them.
