Expecting it to blow???? I noticed an awful lot of duck tape on the airlock, or are you just trying to make your very first airlock last as long as your blue cooler?

Starsan is slippery stuff.  I didn't want it to pop out.  I even CO2 flushed the carbon......Gawd, I feel so dirty typing that word!

First time I saw Denny post this thing about mushrooms in beer I was - revolted is too strong of a word - mildly grosser out, then someone reminded me that yeast, too, is a fungus. Now I want to add the to my tripel recipe. I saw them in bulk last year at costco.

For someone who started out with computers in 1965 using punch cards and an IBM 360, it's nearly unbelievable!

How did a thirteen year old get time on an IBM 360?  Did you work for NASA?  Or maybe NSA?

My 7th grade geometry teacher was way into computers.  There was an advertising specialty co. in town that used a 360.  He got them to put a punch card machine in our classroom so after school we could program.  Then he'd take the stacks of cards to the co. on a slow night and run them.  Then he'd bring back the stacks of green and white lined printouts so we could figure out what we did wrong and do it again!  Took weeks to get a program together that way.  I remember programming poker games and calendars.

Pretty amazing that days worth of programing and debugging a gozillion iterations of  equations to solve a problem, can be solved now in seconds with a common spreadsheet.

Sometimes I miss having to earn it. (did I say that out loud?)

On second thought, I don't miss it so much.

Wow I really don't even know what to say to something like that... I mean how does one even react at seeing such thing?!
That just blew open my brewing horizons!

That looks absolutely bizarre, but then the first time I heard of a smoked beer I thought it sounded awful, then I tried one and my eyes were opened.  Let us know how this turns out.  I'd be interested in the tasting notes.

I took some to a club meeting yesterday and the comments were 100% positive.  It's an absolutely delicious beer, due in no small part to skotrat's amazing wee heavy recipe.
