Finally did a yeast starter
« on: February 21, 2012, 06:31:51 am »
Why the hell did I wait so long to try this?  Less than 12 hours after pitching my airlock is going crazy.  I guess I put it off so long because I thought I didn't have the proper equipment.  While a stir plate would have made it easier, I used a half gallon growler, and just proceeded to swirl it up every so often.

That is exactly how I do mine. Mostly works great.

Yup, not that hard. If you're a poor planner like me, you can do them well ahead of time. Once the yeast are done, store in the refrigerator until ready to use.

With a stir plate and various size flasks, your brewery will look like it has a madscientist as the brewer.  Just saying.

Lol I agree.  I already made it clear to my wife that when we go to buy a house, it has to have room for a "Brew Lab."

I tried to whole 'brew lab' room pitch to my girl too.  She laughed at me not knowing I was serious about it.  Eventually, I will have my own "lab".

My tiny little barracks room is already looking like a brew lab some days  ::)
