First batch is drinkable!
« on: February 28, 2012, 10:25:57 am »
First ever batch, a strong Scottish ale, is definitely drinkable.  Many thanks to the AH community!

We made so many mistakes during the process that I had been ready to dump it at different points along the way.

Bottom line, other than sanitation, the brewing process is very forgiving.

Congratulations!  A strong Scottish is quite the brew to make as your first attempt.  Good job.

Nice job!  So is batch 2 already in the carboy?  If not, better get started.  That first batch isn't going to last as long as you might think . . .

Gotta keep the pipeline going!  Summer's coming when controlling the temps may be harder for some so brew all you can while it's cooler.

Very nice! I would like to echo Tom and suggest to get cracking on another batch. This current success will go fast.

Second batch went in the carboy today.  Same recipe as the first batch as I wanted to see what it would taste like when made correctly.  Sure is A LOT easier to do the second time around.

Drinking the first batch at a two-a-week clip to see if there's any difference.  Second week pair seemed much improved over the first week ones.

It will continue to improve.
With the stronger Scottish ales especially, you're probably going to find that the last few bottles  are going to be the best tasting ones.  Since you have another batch going already, see if you can stash a few bottles away to sample at 4 to 6 months.  You may be pleasantly surprised.

Well said, pretty sure my first batch was gone after 12 days of bottle conditioning...had some friends over and we drank it all...got us all drunk and I was hooked...Looking back, it tasted terrible...hahaha, I just thought BEST.HOBBY.EVER!
