Perlick faucet problems
« on: February 16, 2012, 05:20:36 pm »
I own three Perlick faucets.  I love Perls, they are great!  However I've developed a problem with one.  A few weeks ago it began leaking from item number 7 in this diagram.

So, I took it apart and traced it to a cut gasket -number 2.  Last week, I got my new gasket in, tightened it back down, attached it to the shank, and it still leaks from the same spot!  I tried tightening down on it more, it's really tight.  Then I check my other two faucets, all the fittings are just hand tightened and they haven't leaked for 2 years.  I'm kinda dumbfounded by this one.  Perhaps number 6a in the diagram has gone bad?  It doesn't look damaged... ???

#2 seems like the most likely cause.  Have you tried taking it apart, applying some keg lube, and putting it back together?  Just do it hand tight, if it gets too tight it could be messing with the o-ring and making it worse.

I agree with Tom, but if that doesn't fix your problem, it could be that #7 has worn out a little bit and the hole is bigger it used to be letting beer leak by.

Tom,  yeah I replaced that o-ring and lubed it up last week.  Still leaked.  I replaced the #2 o-ring underneath last night, gonna try it again today, sometime.  I'll let you know if that works.

Try taking apart one of the other ones too and putting them back together, swapping one piece at a time until you find the one that causes the leak.

I had extra of the # 2  gaskets, so I just went ahead and replaced both of them.  Only tightened it hand tight, and it appears not to be leaking.

The last time it leaked, I awoke to the smell of my new stout (stale) and a gallon or so on the floor!  Not fun...

Finally figured out a use for a cheap keg of commerical beer....as a sacrificial lamb to test your leaky faucet  :).

Good one!

All kidding aside, no leaks since my last post.  It looks good to go.

I actually had the same problem once as I put one of mine back together, but it was obvious operator error....the o-ring must have not seated properly and kinked.  After inspecting and re-cleaning, all was fine.
