however, I am about to throw my barleycrusher out...

Care to elaborate?

I have been having issues with 'dead roller syndrome' for the past year or so, after 3-4 years of great performance without a hitch.  The past 3 brews, the situation has been getting progressively worse and I have to continuously dump the hopper and re-start to get it going again, only to have it fail after a minute or so of running.

I've disassembled and cleaned a few times now since this started acting up, and it doesn't seem to help.

It took me ~45minutes to crush a measly 24lbs of grain yesterday - during that process I think I invented some new curses.  I really did need a beer to RDWHAHB, but it was 7am and I was still on coffee.

Am going to research some fixes and if not, will start reviewing the monster mill.

Of course, if you had a JSP, that would be covered under the lifetime warranty!  :)

I know some people were complaining about this issue.
First thing in order is to contact BC maker.
He is supposed to be very accommodating.
I think BC has lifetime Warranty (I would have to check for sure).

Next thing is that rollers have to be perfectly straight with each other.
This was a solution for some people.
Good luck.

The BC used to state they had a lifetime warranty on their site. That said, I have the same issue sometimes. I jam a metal yard stick or old knife down there to get it started again. It is frustrating but it works.

Babalu - you have any more information on that mod?

Keith, we milled down a little of the roller itself on a lathe and then pressed the gears on.
Also used double set screws so they would stay put.

Had the gears on the shelf here at work.

FWIW, I did email them - the response was to try taking a wire brush to the rollers first and see if that helps.  Randy felt my rollers may have starter to wear down and that is why they aren't catching as well.  Will give a try on the dort in 2 weeks.
