BeerAlchemy and other software
« on: February 02, 2010, 10:45:00 PM »
Does anybody use the BeerAlchemy program - either on the Apple and/or on their iPhone??
If "yes" - I would love to get recipes that I could add to my library database of beers - or are there any sites that I could download recipes from?
And since I'm on the topic: are there any  "must have" iphone applications that members recommend??
Thanks for the help
David

Disclaimer - I do not have an apple nor an iPhone
However, I heard about "brewpal" and checked out their website.  The app looks pretty darn cool and I could definitely see why it would be awesome to have in the brewhouse.   Sorta makes me want to buy an ipod or iphone.

and no, I'm not affilliated with brewpal at all

I do have BrewPal.
It is nice looking application.

After some time I found that I do not use it after all.
May be it is just me but when I brew I do not use computer.
I can not transfer my ProMash recipes to BrewPal (because ProMash does not support BeerXML file format).

One app that I use from time to time is "BJCP Styles".
It is available for iPhone and Android base phones.

I have mac computers.  No iphone/pad/touch, blah blah blah...   :P  I did have an iPod but that cheap piece a'...   :-[  sorry...

erm, anyway, you can "sync" Beer Alchemy with your iPod and it shows your recipe as a text file.

I use Beer Alchemy and it is a great program.  Easy to navigate and use.  Regular updates, just got one today.    I tend to only create my own recipes so I do not have much experience with this feature, but I believe you can download/import recipes that are saved in BeerXML format.  I have used it for a while now and not had any issues.  The developer has been open to comments/suggestions thus far.

I originally downloaded it as a trial.  I believe you can still do that.  It is a good way to get a feel for it.

edit:  Just read the updates list and apparently your can also sync with your iPhone.

I also use Beer Alchemy.  I too find the programmer/owner very responsive to questions.  They have version which works on the iPod Touch and iPhone.  He has has just posted Beer Alchemy viewer which can sync with the Mac's version of Beer Alchemy.  I have also heard of an application called Beer Cloud but this is more for beer/food selection and beer location/identification.
