Hopshot and Hop extract
« on: April 15, 2012, 12:26:06 am »
I looked up the Hopshot on NB. The price seems ok  but I'd like to buy more than a syringe-full.

Ideas and experiences with hop-extract?

The latest Brewing TV episodes talks somewhat about the hopshot. From what I've heard, it's a good replacement for the bittering addition if you're going to be making a big IPA. It helps with the loss of wort to the large amount of hops you have to use. I see they have an amarillo hop shot now. I'm curious how that would work in a 0 minute addition.

The description says you can use it for any bittering, flavor or aroma charges?

I've actually made an all Hopshot beer using it at 60, 20, and flameout.  Kinda underwhelming.  Maybe I didn't use enough.  The bittering was firm, but kinda mellow.  Flavor was a bit soapy.  Aroma was pretty much non existent.
