Gelatin Finings
« on: May 06, 2012, 10:40:11 pm »
I would like to know how to use Gelatin Finings. I have a Pliny the Elder in the secondary and with all the dry hops I'm afraid I will not be able to get them all to settle out. Any info on the proper procedure that will help will be greatly appreciated.

If you keg, use it like this:

1. Sprinkle 1 tsp of powdered gelatin (knox brand from the supermarket works well) in a small coffee mug of cool water and wait 20 minutes.

2. Microwave the cup of water and gelatin for 1 min and stir to dissolve.

3. Wait until lukewarm, then add to a cold keg of beer.

4. After a day or two, the beer should be much clearer.

If you don't keg, then do this:

1. Sprinkle 1 tsp of powdered gelatin (knox brand from the supermarket works well) in a small coffee mug of cool water and wait 20 minutes.

2. Microwave the cup of water and gelatin for 1 min and stir to dissolve.

3. Wait until lukewarm, then add to a cold-crashed fermenter.

4. Wait 3-5 days before racking to a bottling bucket or otherwise bottling.
