How long should it take to get roots from the pineapple top?  I tossed the first one, it was looking raggedy.  But I have another healthy looking one drying on top of the fridge, another day or so and it goes into the water.

Rootlets should begin to appear on the trunk where the removed leaves were attached -  in a week or so.  keep the water clean, change it often.

Maybe I should have given it more time, but it had been 10 days with nothing and I found a much nicer looking one that I hope will sprout easier.  I was changing the water more or less daily.  It will be good :)

I stuck mine in water on the 25th.  It does look a little raggedy, but you could see roots clearly a couple days ago.

I moved it outside yesterday where it's getting better sunlight and this morning it's like a root explosion.  There are little nubs coming out all over the base.

The green part of the top has shriveled a bit, but you can also see new growth down in the middle.

New growth comes out of the center.  When the flower (fruit) starts the center turns bright red, like a baboon's ass.

Not THAT I'd like to see.  ;)  (Pineapples are bromeliads)

As long as you don't send pictures of baboon ass, you can make fun of me all day long for ignorance of how pineapples grow.
