Does anyone have experience with a wireless remote read thermometer?  That would really be handy, especially when heating mash water out in the garage in winter.  I could hang out in the house where it's warm.

My daughter has one for cooking, but I have no idea how accurate it is.

Just try it and see how well it works, do comparisons with what you normally use.  Once I got my mash temp, I'd leave it anyway and just monitor with the remote if I thought there was a reason.

I looked into getting one of them but the ones that I was finding were for sticking in a turkey or a roast and weren't completely submersible.

Probes on those things fail pretty frequently and liquids..................... forget it.

I have it submerged all the time when I mash.
Otherwise I would say 10 sec.

What do you use to keep it standing upright so it doesn't fall down into the bottom of the mash?

I hang it on side of mash tun.
That works with round 10 gal cooler.

Set up a web cam pointed at the HLT thermometer, then just watch it on you PC.  This would come in handy all throughout the brewday...hands-off brewing!
