The people who live in Seattle have never seen sunshine.  It might scare them.   :D

Actually it's their little secret to scare away tourists, but it's really nice there in the Summer.

Yeah, we use that "It's always rainy here in Hilo" dodge to keep the windward side of the Big Island to ourselves too.  ;)

I noticed I can get a room at the Hyatt from Wednesday night through check out Sunday through the link now... but they didn't discount Thursday and Friday night which sit at $225 instead of $139 that Wednesday and Saturday get.

Glitch? Or is that just the case since you had to get more rooms?

Sent out an e-mail inquiring about the price difference... got a pretty quick reply:

Hi Chaz,

Thank you for your email.  The American Homebrewers Association's room block has sold out of rooms on both Thursday and Friday so we did add rooms for the group so more attendees were able to book rooms but it was at a post rate of $225.00, plus tax.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thank you!

Considering the price difference (and the AHA is now aware) I recommend you to book at the secondary hotel at $139/night
It is a skybridge walk away

Have you rebooked at the Westin yet?
The next nearest hotel is the Courtyard, which is 3 blocks away and $158/night

For those of you looking to save a few bucks and don't mind a slight walk, six blocks or so, there is the Coast Hotel.  A week back they had rooms for three-four days at $83 a night if you book three nights in a row.  The nice thing is the NHC is in downtown Bellevue, so you can feel pretty safe walking around town.  Great restaurants in the area too, but some can make quite the impact in your wallet too.

FWIW, I have a hotel reservation at the main location, but I was unable to get tickets for the NHC as it sold out even faster!  I'm willing to offer splitting the room cost in exchange for access to purchase tickets.

Contact me if you have spare tickets and want to stay at the main location!

Whew, we were able to add Saturday night to our reservation at the conference hotel.  Don't know what I was thinking not booking Saturday from the start. Can't wait.

Got an e-mail today from AHA regarding some rooms opening up at the Hyatt.

What's the deal?  As much as I'd like to potentially save some bucks and shorten the walking distance (Hyatt rather than the Westin via skywalk), it seems like Westin still remains the better deal overall.

Hyatt $139/nt for wednesday & saturday BUT $225/nt for thurs and friday so out-the-door cost is $832.

Westin is $159/nt, so out-the-door cost is $636.

Not worth $200 more in my opinion but have 2 reservations on hold.

What's the point of "group rates" if they don't apply to the actual dates of the group event?

The thing with hotel rates for a group is that a hotel basically sets aside a block per night at the special rate. If the Hyatt is charging 225 for those two nights, we must have sold out on the block.
