2012 NHC Chicago Results - How did I do?
« on: June 05, 2012, 05:12:46 pm »
Hey all,

I'm looking for a frame of referance on how I did in the NHC.  My buddy and I have been brewing for about 2 years and entered 6 beers this year.  I think they all did pretty well, but dont' really have any referance point as I don't know anyone else who entered.

Our scores ranged from 26 to 36.5, so they all recieved a bronze or silver certificate.  How common are the certificates?  Is it an "everybody gets a ribbon" type thing or should I be really proud of this?

Thanks for your comments.

The 36.5 is not a bad score. Did any of your beers have the box checked that those went to the mini Best of Show? It that box is checked, the beer was in contention for a medal for a while.

The certificates get sent based on the score range, so more of everyone gets on in that range. A ribbon for a 1,2,3 for the first round is cool. The ultimate cool is a medal at the second round.

Our American Pale Ale had the mini BOS boxed checked, that one scored a 34.66.  The 36.5 was our coffee stout, the other 4 were between 26 & 31.

So the couple in the mid 30's are the good ones and the rest or more run of the mill?

That sums it up.

thanks for the referance point.  we didn't really expect to medal in the 2nd round, but were hoping to have 1 qualify for it.  oh well, we will get better for next year.

None of mine went on this year. The strategy for next year is to brew better beer!
