Tallgrass Oasis Clone
« on: June 26, 2012, 10:17:45 am »
This is my second favorite beer, with Surly Furious edging it out by a very close margin.

I brewed this up last Saturday, but instead of using an ale yeast I have it in the fridge with 830 lager yeast.  I just racked 15 gallons out, so I dumped 2 cakes and split one amongst the three fermenters.
I used the NB recipe, and scaled it to 12 gallons for my batch.  When its all done and carbed up I will add a picture of the beer in a glass also.

Oasis
12 gallon batch
OG 1.075

GRAINS
22 lb Pale Malt
2 lb C-60
2 lb C-40

Mash at 155 for 60 min

HOPS
2 oz Northern Brewer 60 min
2 oz Columbus 60 min
1 oz Columbus 15 min
1/4 oz Northern Brewer 15 min
2 oz Cascade Flame out

I did a hop stand for 30 min, then through the chiller to the fermenter.

Dry Hop
1 oz Cascade 7 days
1 oz Columbus 7 days

Looks like yours is a bit off on the pale malt from the official "blessed" clone from NB: http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/brewing/recipe-kits/pro-series/tallgrass-brewing-company/tallgrass-oasis-pro-series-all-grain-kit.html

Otherwise, looks pretty close to theirs.

I adjusted the pale down for my higher efficiency.  I left the carmel alone.

I transferred this off the dry hops today into kegs for carbing.  I must say that it turned out very close to the real Oasis.  I am going to brew this one again and again.
THanks NB and Tallgrass!

]So I finally tapped this keg tonight.
I am quite happy!  I don't have a side by side picture, and as usual only a phone camera.
It has a noticeable hoppy presence to the nose.  Eerily familiar, along with a bitter presence on the tongue.  Grapefruit and citrus at the front of the tongue with a fade to orange at the back.  (I made a couple changes to the recipe), along with the presence of caramel on the breath.
I am thinking this is a stellar recipe that is everybit as good as a purchased beer, it isn't an Oasis clone, (that I made), but it is close.  I am happy..
It makes me feel whole. ;D
