citra help
« on: July 04, 2012, 08:36:36 am »
it's time to dry hop my pale ale.  i've been using amarillo, centennial and simcoe for the dry hopping.  i have some citra and was wondering if it would work well with these other hops?

cheers.

happy and safe 4th.

Yea they are great for dry hopping. The only thing I can recommend is that they are pretty powerful so if it is a light beer they can overpower the beer but that is usually a good thing.

thanks!

also,

i have been hopping a half ounce of amarillo and a half ounce centennial and an once of simcoe.  thought i would cut it in half and use citra for the other half for a total of two ounces.  been refining this recipe and am liking how its developing.
cheers.

Citra can easy dominate other hops because of its high oil content. If you use an ounce of Citra and 1/4-1/2 ounce of the others the Citra will likely take over. If that's what you're shooting for then go for it. Otherwise just leave the others the same and add 0.5 oz of Citra in addition. Either way will be damn tasty.

My best pale ale was dry hopped with Columbus and Citra (1 oz each)... It was awesome.

I just had the Citra IPA at the Iron Hill Brewery in Wilmington, Delaware.  Loved it!  Smelled just like my mom's house!   ;)

I'm currently pouring an IPA dryhopped with 1 oz. Simcoe, .5 oz. Citra and .5 oz. Amarillo. It's smells fantastic and tastes delicious.  Folks I serve it to can't keep their noses out of their glasses.

Dude, right on with this.  I agree.  I made  something similar, and I will always remember it!  In fact, I need to brew this soon!
