RIP Jon Lord - Deep Purple keyboardist dead at 71
« on: July 16, 2012, 09:22:50 pm »
I'm raising a pint to one of the early musicians who challenged and redefined the roll of the keyboard and organ in rock music.  He used to pump hammond-leslie organ sound through marshall full stack amplification getting that huge 70s style distortion to have his organ get that heavy sound.

I was just but a wee lad, but it's comforting to know that there was a time in my life when keyboards + rock did not = suck

RIP to a true legend and innovator.

Unfortunately, I didn't know him.  But just the mention of his name brings back the sound of the organ in "Hush".

Definitely an inovative sound that will be remembered.  I enjoyed his music.  R.I.P Jon.

Being a musician myself, Jon was one of my musical heroes. RIP to one of the MOST IMPORTANT pioneers in rock and metal history. He was the sound of Deep Purple and metal in the 70s as far as im concerned.

Guess we'll never see Ritchie get out of the medieval garb and throw a strat on with Jon next to him.
