Homebrew Shop Statistics
« on: October 22, 2012, 07:20:37 pm »
I realize that this category is supposed to be reserved for brewers looking to go professional as an actual brewer, but I was unable to find a category for homebrew shop owner wannabees.  If there is a category that I overlooked, please move me or let me know where I should've posted.  Basically I am looking for information on where I can find statistics and analytical models on what I should look for in my area where I would like to open my homebrew store.  I have found some models on population derived statistics but I would like to locate the most up to date information to base my business plan on.  Mostly what I am looking for is information on (1) how many members are there in the AHA?  (2) What is the estimated percentage of homebrewers in the AHA versus the nation as a whole?  (3) What kind of population in my service area would be necessary to support a homebrew shop.  I live in an area devoid of homebrew shops and have a lot of great ideas on how one shoud be run but need some sort of basis to ground my business plan in.  Any help you guys have would be most helpful.

I would contact the AHA directly. I know they've done studies and should have plenty of information for you.

There's been some discussion in the past here about this.  Try searching around the site.

IIRC, there are 30-35K AHA members currently.  The last estimate I heard is that there are maybe 1 million homebrewers nationwide.
Life begins at 60.....1.060, that is!

Hi there,

If you want to email me directly, I would be more than happy to share some of the information we have available for homebrew shops in-planning.
