Founders Reds Rye PA
« on: July 21, 2012, 10:15:50 am »
I have been back in Ohio for a class and found a bar (One Eyed Jacks) in Dayton that had Founders Reds Rye PA.  This beer was the money shot for me.  As a home brewer, rye is one of the ingredients that I have been using a lot of.  Founders really hit the mark with the full flavor rye can give.  I think it was the few of us in the class that drained the keg of it they had on tap.

Has anyone else had this beer and what are your thoughts?

Tim

I prefer this over Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye.

They also had Bear Republics and Magic Hats rye beers but neither came close to the founders.

Well I have 6 bottles that I put in my luggage here in England now.  2 to share and 4 to try and take my time with.

It's a nice one, and I've had it many times. I live 20 minutes from Founders

LOVE this beer. Enough bitterness to satisfy my hophead nature, refreshing through the summer, and the citrus hops and spicy rye work VERY nicely.

Tempts me to add a few handfulls of rye in my IPA.

After following this thread I was successful in hunting down a reasonably fresh bottle of this beer. I have to say, this is one of the few hoppy beers I've had where I actually enjoy their judicious use of caramel malts. The spice of the rye balances out the caramel very well. There's a nice raisiny note on the nose that I'm really digging. I'm assuming it's from Special B.

I think the SN Ruthless Rye is a bit more to my tastes, but this is still a damn tasty beer. Thanks for the tip on this one everybody.
