Yeast has to really activated. No bubbling
« on: August 14, 2012, 09:18:08 am »
So I brewed a pumpkin this weekend. Popped my yeast smack pack of 1056 and pitched as scheduled. It's been 4 days now with no bubbling happening in primary air lock. The pressure is pushing the water level inn the right direction, but no bubbling is taking effect.

I peaked inside and there is a nice krausen layer and smells great. Something is working but no bubbles. Also checked for leaks in primary lid but nothing there.

Any clues? Let it ride? Repitch?

Thanks

Lou

RDWHAHB!  If you have a krausen layer and smells great, leave it be.  You probably have a leak somewhere, but don't stress over it.

I wouldn't worry about the beer.  But you might want to be sure that nothing is blocking the air lock.  If there are no leaks and the air lock is not bubbling, you might blow the top off at some point.

Thanks Dave. I agree. Also am going to check gravity tonight. If it's dropping, it's fermenting.
Thanks

Was it a pail?  If so, don't worry. My plastic pails almost never bubble and are always fine. Just leaky lids and don't worry about it after either. When it's done , bottle.

Yes, it was a brand new NB bucket. No rubber seal like I had on my pervious bucket that I broke the lid. First batch in this bucket rocked out bubbles immidiatly, but this batch is just plain blahhhhh on the bubbles.  I agree that it probably is just leaking.

Will check gravity tonight to see if I'm dropping from 1.056. I'll report back.  Going to taste too. Mmmmm
