If his parents hadn't passed on a predisposition to alcohol abuse and raised him in way that made him a) drink like them or b) have no good example to follow when he started drinking, the shooting wouldn't have happened.  Maybe he should sue them first.

I don't say that to be harsh.  My own family has strong tendencies toward alcoholism.  We have all had to learn where the line between having a drink and not remembering last night is.  You can make a choice if you want to.
