Bravo Hops?
« on: November 01, 2012, 01:00:32 pm »
Anyone have any experience with them? I am looking for replacement hops for Simcoe and Amarillo.

I just bought 2 oz of Zythos and Bravo since the descriptions seem similar

good bittering hop - kind of earthy/spicy.  nice and oily/sticky.

not too crazy with it as a flavor or aroma hop.

replacement for Simcoe or Amarillo?  not on your life.

I'd say they'd sub for Warrior or Columbus moreso.

i'd recommend a single hop pale or amber - that's what I did when they first came out (07?).

Yeah I think that is my plan for the Bravo and Zythos. I was thinking about bittering with magnum though and using Bravo/Zythos for flavor/aroma in the two diferent beers. Probably won't get around to it for a while.

I just brewed my second IPA with Bravo as the sole bittering hop.  It's a good change of pace from Chinook or Columbus.  I like it a lot.  It would not be a suitable aroma-sub for the hops you mentioned though.  What possible sub is there for Simcoe anyway?
