Not that it matters now, I thought bags of grain were excluded from the flat rate shipping.  Probably would have ordered some from them if I had know sacks were included.

I don't think sacks were supposed to be included. I suspect they weren't managing their flat-rate shipping policy, and were losing money by applying it improperly. I bet that's why they got rid of it.

Back in April I got a full sack of pils from NB because of the flat-rate shipping. I'm pretty sure they lost money on that deal, and I'm not surprised they discontinued the program.

The few times I bought sacks of grain from NB they didn't give me flat rate shipping.

I just picked up 3 bags of grain at the Minneapolis store a couple of Saturdays ago.  I was in the Twin Cities for my kid's marching band competition and thought I'd take advantage of "free" shipping, the AHA discount as well as something to do for a couple of hours while the band practiced.

I have to say that I have never seen a busier LHBS.  At least not here in central Iowa.  Two cash registers with 3 and 4 customers in line at each.  They had a brewing class going on as well.  If that was a typical Saturday afternoon I think they are doing okay business-wise.

Good luck with your brews when you finally get the shipment.

Whenever I'm placing an order, I check my usual places and go with whoever is cheaper.

By and large, that has been NB and mostly due to shipping.  Not always, but usually.

If that doesn't pan out any longer it will just give me the opportunity to try out a few new stores.

Also, I'm often ordering bulk DME (50 lbs) from NB and that does not (did not?) get the flat rate.  Even so, their shipping has been consistently cheaper than other on-line places but they have the advantage of being closer to Chicago than most others.

I've never had a problem with delivery, but I'm not usually ordering just-in-time ingredients from on-line.  For those, I run out to the LHBS.

Got it sorted out. I was able to get somebody more knowledgeable (thanks, Nick!) who was able to re-route the package to my aunt who's coming to visit in a week. Gets delivered tomorrow.

Nick also helped me with my difficulties (one of the two boxes lost its shipping label and NB sent a replacement the same day). Three cheers for Nick!

What a nice aunt!  If I were you I would say thank you with a night at the opera.  I hear Figaro's Nose is a good one.    ;)

What a great idea, Carl! I went looking in the couch cushions and happened to find four tickets to La Nozze di Figaro. How about that.

There is much brewing in my future, what with the plentiful hop harvest (3 kilos so far).

I tend to sleep through opera, so I am not the best informed.  I think of Italy when I think of opera.

And, yes, I have slept through opera in Italy.

Think about Phil's night at the opera:
An American in France watching an opera sung in Italian, written by a German.
