Welcoming the new year

so it may seem a bit early for such a title but here's the story.

I was struck with inspiration when my wife told me that I could sleep in on new years day. I thought 'well heck, if'n I don't have to wake up early with the kid I could stay up super late and not be any more overtired' so I decided to greet the new year with a brew day.

I am going to mash in at 00:00:00 (does that time exist? if not then 00:00:01) on 01/01/2013. But just what should I brew?

A big quad like Denny's 400th batch?
Something light that I can start enjoying right away?
Maybe a partigyle and get the best of both worlds?

It's wide open right now so let's hear your suggestions!

If it were me, I'd definitely make something that I could enjoy during subsequent New Year's Eve parties. Maybe a nice big English-style barleywine, and if you felt the urge you could split it with a bitter. On the other hand, I've never second-guessed myself after brewing something Belgian.

Sounds fun.  I suggest an oatmeal imperial stout! And do a partigyle to get a quick turnover stout for the second runnings, or a brown ale.

I brewed up Denny's quad for my 40th birthday.  Very nice.  I recommend it.

Unfortunately for me, most of it was consumed at the party.  I still have a bit left that I need to bottle and age, but it's damn tasty and will likely just stay on tap til it's gone.

I think I brewed Denny's Quad last August, and it has only been getting better. So, I would definitely recommend that brew. I actually still have 2.5 gallons bulk aging with a little oak, that I used 3789 Trappist Blend on. Maybe I should bottle that.

For the past three years, I've made a Barley Wine (American) on New Year's Day.  This year around X-mas I plan on doing a little tasting with some friends to compare the past three years and try to fill out some score sheets.

that sounds fun.

This year for my birthday (January) I am doing a vertical tasting of bigfoot from 2007-2012 (2013 if it's out yet) with the exception of 2008 unless I get really lucky between now and then and find a bottle of that year. But I do have;

2007
2009
2010
2011
2012

Barley wine is an idea but I often do barley wine of some sort for my 'special' brews.

I like beerski's idea (and I am TOTALLY SHOCKED that he would recommend a dark beer! ;)) as I have been wondering about a really dark partigyle since I started doing partigyles.

But a partigyle belgian is an interesting idea as well. Quad and belgian pale? hmm
