Oh- gmac that is mah belly!

Sweet!!!  I couldn't decide if it was a table or a shirtless Euge belly.  Didn't want to call it out in case it was a table.
Still think you need smaller glasses for him and bigger glasses for you.

just gonna say, I'm gonna try to drop by soon and plan on drinking the keg dry. Then I might hit on your daughter. :P

Reducing glassware size seems like a good way to address the issue. If the guy is drinking 5 servings of 24 oz. pours, he should probably cut back anyway.

I set out a bunch of taster glasses for friends. If they want to keep refilling them, that's fine, but if they're also coming over for "a visit" then hopefully they're not going to spend all their time disappearing into the back room for a refill. I also like the idea of an ingredient fund, though I haven't needed to go this far yet.

Wow... we all have the same problem.. what I do is fill a keg with a handle of cheap Black Velvet and 3 giant bottles of soda. ...Whiskey and coke for $15 on tap and you can't make beer for that price. Try drinking 5-24oz. whiskeys.

Remember there is 5 hours of work on a 10 gal batch....That comes out to $2 per six pack for ingredients and $15 labor per six pack.

OR... make him do all the grunt work on brew day. You can just kick back and bark orders...

I'd tell him he's welcome to buy all the ingredients and sit through a brew session and then help him bottle up the beer and split it with him. This will give him an idea 1) how expensive it is and 2) how much work it is for such a small amount of beer.

My problem is that all the guys know what my beer costs to make and most have been here on a brew day, so they know what effort goes into it.  They bring me craft beers to the point where I don't have room to store it and my beer is the choice when given the choice.  Wait, that's not a problem....actually I slow guys down by saying a beer is off limits and being saved for "competition", then I "forget" to enter it and serve it at a pace I choose.  After all, I control the tappers - all 4 of them.

Have you went to the LHBS and hooked your buddy up with that beginners kit?

I'll probably order a starter setup and kit and have it delivered to him for xmas present which also happens to be his b-day! So kill two birds with one stone. BTW I haven't gotten him anything in nearly 30 years...

Then I'll bring 2-3 cases of bottles over and some pint glasses he admires. He can brew or not. If so I will be available for advice and demo but he can figure it out himself since he is a pretty smart guy. He knows about forums so I will direct him towards a different one so any potential embarrassment can be avoided.

Why would you direct him away from his bet source of information?  Just delete this thread :)

Excellent point. I had thought about it my loyalties notwithstanding.

There's plenty of info out there. I stand by my choice and topics as always. If he gravitates towards the AHA I will welcome him enthusiastically. I'll not encourage him initially for the reason stated above. He might get a good laugh out of this thread though!
