so do people really have this much excess weed that they have to do things like this to get rid of it?!?

The definition of "excess" would be very subjective. For some ingestion is the only route of administration that is open to them.

indeed, anybody chooseing to use this plant for medical or recreational purposes would do well to do something other than smoking. While study after study seems to confirm that the risks associated with tobacco are lessened or even absent with MJ it'll still tear up your lungs and if you already have a lung related issue or are an athlete etc.

I know somebody who made a tincture by soaking some herbs in everclear for a month or so, then adding the strained liquid at bottling time.  They reported that the effect was noticeable even in one bottle, but not to a large degree.  I wonder if it was just the added alcohol boost from the everclear?

Seems kind of silly if you ask me, but whatever floats your boat!

Enter the vaporizer. I have made several batches using Rosemary (dry hopped about 20g.) but that's for flavor and aroma. Personally I like to keep the two (alcohol and cannabis) separate, and by the time you start to feel the effects of the THC in your beer, you've already ingested far too much to be enjoyable.
FWIW, PBW does an excellent job cleaning glassware. Just sayin'.

So does 95% alcohol. Also an Oxyclean soak works extremely well and is very cheap.

Personally, I'd rather just add some to my Guinness brownie recipe.

Let's say for argument's sake that you don't smoke, but since it's legal, might want to try growing just for the fun of it. It's still illegal to sell, so what to do with all that weed? Brew beer, perhaps? I'm very curious what would be the effect, both on flavor/aroma and the narcotic aspect, if pot were simply used in place of a hops addition.

Since THC is not especially soluble in water, you would end up throwing most of it onto your compost pile.  The sugar in the wort will probably affect the solubility in some way, but I'm not sure by how much.

Better to make some butter and then bake some brownies if you want to eat your weed.

Yes but isn't THC alcohol-soluable?

That is why it is better to not brew with it, but to add it later in the form of a tincture. Or you could have it with your morning cocoa...

Dry-hop mayhaps?

Perhaps in a really strong beer. The efficiency will be a joke though and one might not like the flavor dry-hopping weed will bring to the party. The tincture is the best bet out available.
