Anyone used the 10" spun poly beer filter from BB&MB
« on: November 19, 2012, 05:57:01 pm »
1) Are the 10" cartride spun poly filters from Beer Beer & More Beer realy sterile?
I am going to use them for filtering beer but not sure if I need to sterilize prior to use.

2) Has any one used the 1 micron 10" cartride with success?

I prefer pleaded cartrages over spun once.
I usually sanitize them in starsan.

1 micron will remove yeast from your beer.

I don't use the ones from Morebeer but I buy the 1 micron spun filters from various suppliers 24 at at time.  They get real cheap (>$2) at that volume.  They are manufactured sterile and as long as the plastic wrapper is intact you should be OK.  Just sanitize the filter housing and hoses and your hands as you assemble things.  I have never had a problem, but do not try to re-use them beyond the current filter session.  I can usually get 20 gallons through before things get REAL slow.
