Unibroue la Terrible
« on: January 01, 2013, 07:40:09 pm »
Tried this one along with about 30 other beers I had not tried over Christmas with the family.  We rated them all and this one scored well with all and was my favorite beer overall.  It had some very pungent dark fruit notes that I have not tasted in a BDS before.  I will defiantly get this one again.  And from Canada.  I thought they only had LaBatt Blue and Molson Ice.  Lol.

I believe Unibroue is the best brewery in Canada.  Love their beers.

FYI - NB still has some of the Unibroue yeast in stock (WY3864). It's a limited release for Oct-Dec of last year. If you want some, snatch it up while you still can.

Not to diss Unibroue or anything, but Dieu du Ciel is IMO the best Canadian brewery.

I have found that the trader joes vintage ale is very similar to this beer and for $4.99, not a bad price either. I bet they use a similar recipe and age it differently or spice it differently.

Yep, we compared the two and there was very little difference, but of course the age of a beer like this can be all it takes to make them taste different.

Unibroue makes some awesome beers. Their tripel (La Fin Du Monde) is one of the best commercially made tripels out there IMO.

:)

I vacationed in Vancouver B.C. recently and was blown away by the quality and quantity of the local beers and breweries. Phillips and Driftwood were among my favorites. Great beers.

+1 phil. I find the unibroue beers to all have a house flavour that doesn't work for me. But that could be purely personal taste.

I haven't had a unibroue yet that wasn't excellent.
