Corny converted to Sanke
« on: January 22, 2013, 03:51:15 pm »
This is just about the strangest thing I've ever seen.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Alcatraz-Brewing-Co-Beer-Mini-Aluminum-Keg-3-Gallons-Home-Brewing-/251215902565?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a7da27765

Someone who knows how to weld obviously put some effort in to this, but I can't figure out why.

I have gotten Corny's converted to Sanke from Brekenridge as well inlieu of a true 1/6th barrel (this was recently, and is still probably in their service).  I figured that if you have some old cornys sitting around and need a 1/6 barrel and all you have is Sanke heads for filling/cleaning, it would make sense to convert (compared to the cost of new kegs).

You wouldn't believe the things I've seen...

I've seen tons of them over the years, but this is the first time I've seen a 3 gallon one.  gsandel is right, if you already have a large collection of cornys or could get them cheap (back in the day when they were $5-15 each) it is far cheaper to get someone to close up the old posts and add a sanke coupler than buying used sanke kegs.

It's aluminum?

That's what the listing says, but I bet they're wrong.  I am not bidding, so I will not find out.
