Rye IPA Recipe

rapurcell85:
Hey guys,
Looking for some feedback on this recipe.  Going for a good IPA with a touch of the Rye spiciness to come through.  Any thoughts would be great.  Using a blend of Amarillo, Centenial, and Cascade for my flavor with additions in the Mash, First Wort, 40 min, 20 min, and flameout, plus dry hopping.  Doing Magnum at 60 minutes to adjust bitterness.  I will also do a whirlpool for 30 minutes before cooling after the boil.

Any and all input is welcome!
Thanks,
Bob

Might want to up the rye- not sure you'll taste it at that%.

kmccaf:
Personally, I would use more rye. I like around 20%, but I think it needs to be at least 15% to have a presence. I would also move the 40minute addition to 10 or 5 minutes, as I just don't get a lot from a 40 minute addition that justifies using up my delicious aroma hops.

I haven't used Maris Otter with Rye, so others will have to comment on their experience with that. While I do like my IPAs to have Maris Otter, it really depends on what kind of presence you want with your Rye and hops. I would think the MO would be too rich and overwhelm the rye.

Love the hop combo though.

davidgzach:
+1 to upping the Rye.

denny:
More rye and forget the mash hops.  IMO, it's a waste of hops.
