I have just heard from a few different sources that 1/6 are losing popularity in favor of 1/4s. Can't remember exactly who, now. But I will tell you we save a lot of time cleaning 1/4s and (especially) 1/4 over sixtels.

I have to think that the price of corny kegs is a factor. When they were basically free, everyone was making and selling "pub kegs".

Are kegs capitalized and depreciated, or are they expensed?

I checked with Mic's source, they have a warehouse in Sumner, maybe 45 minutes from my house.  I can pick them up there for $87 apiece, but unfortunately they have no 1/4 bbl kegs now, just 1/6 and 1/2.  But considering I need 3 @ 1/6 bbl for every 2 @ 1/4 bbl, it's sort of like paying $130 for 1/4 bbl kegs, or $520 for 1 bbl of kegs with more labor needed.  So I'm going to keep looking for the 1/4s.

I contacted gopher but they haven't responded. :(

When suppliers don't make their prices public I wonder what they're hiding.

+1

When I'm searching for new equipment vendors, the ones that post their prices (or at least have a catalog or local pricing lists) are almost always easier to work with, more reliable, and more transparent.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but going with the trend has always benefited me so far.

I lease from keg logistics, you get brand new Franke kegs. I went with slim 1/4's and 1/2's about $100 a month per 30 kegs. * year end of term cost is about 3 times buying out right. The thing that sold me is it is not exclusive, I can own my own kegs, If I find a good deal on something I trust.

I got a bunch of chinese kegs from a local refurbisher sitting in my hallway that won't hold pressure. Maybe I can sell them as boil kettles with no ba juju.

I just got a mailer for keg rental:

Keg Credit out of Nashville TN

1/2 and 1/4 BBL are 13 cents a day and 1/6 BBL is 10 cents a day.

I do not know if they are rent to own or just rent.

A couple of our club members who have started Nanos and a guy in Ashland I know are going through Gopher.
I was with one of the guys last night and he told me he picked up a pallet this week on sale for I believe $94 ea. (1/2 bbl) They have been very happy with both the kegs and pricing thus far.

We're looking at gopher as well as ambrach.com for kegs, I think they might have the same source.  Ambrach has no 1/4s though.  We can get some from gopher right away, if the owner ever decides to spend the money. ::)
