that sounds like it would solve a lot of the issues.  i'll try it that way on my next brew.  thanks!!

For late additions i always  mix my extract "DME,LME" in a pitcher of water and then add. Reduces the risk of scorching.

When doing any sort of extract addition during the boil it is just as easy to turn the heat down or off to avoid scorching. Also, adding extract at flameout works really well as Tom suggests.
