Hoses gone wild
« on: March 10, 2013, 10:17:20 pm »
Hey there,

So I have my counter pressure bottle filler hooked up to my kegerator. I put tees in the beer line and gas line to add hoses that lead to my bottle filler. Everything is currently attached by ring clamps. Problem is, now I have a tangled mess of hoses that are a pain in the bum to connect/disconnect for cleaning or just removing when not in use. I'm wondering if there's a quick solution for this. I'm thinking something like how a chuck on an air compressor works. Anyone have a solution for this mess?

Thanks!

I used quick disconnects for I can unhook for the kegerator and connect to the lines on the CP filler when I need it.  All the extra hoses are in the box with the CP filler.

That sounds like what I'd like to do.  Can you get these "quick disconnects" at Home Depot or something?  Could you post a link to what you use?  Thanks!

I use standard QDs for pneumatic tools, but I only have them on my gas lines.

I think if you put a QD on the liquid lines, I think you need a liquid QD like this one: http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=22889.

I wouldn't run beer through a brass disconnect.  But I suppose you could.

These are like the ones I have.  I picked mine up from the LHBS:

http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/cpc-female-gas-disconnect-1-4-barb.html
http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/cpc-male-gas-disconnect-1-4-barb.html

I have a Female on the line out of the regulator, a Male on the line into the kegerator and a Male on the line for the CP Filler.  I have a "T" that splits the CO2 line so it can feed the keg and the filler.  I also have standard ball lock fittings to connect to keg I'm filling out of.

*** Edited to add a missing "the".

Blichmann's Beer Gun.
WAYYY simpler to use than the trad. CP filler! Morebeer.com has stainless QDs for 1/2" and are a little spendy.

So with a quick disconnect (like this: http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/female-stainless-quick-disconnect-x-1-2-barb.html) connected to a short hose coming off the tee in my beer/gas lines, when I disconnect my CPBF and there's just the female fitting dangling off the tee, no beer or gas will escape this, correct? Sorry if I'm being a little thick on this.  You're not kidding, these things are pricey!!

I don't lose any gas through my QDs.

If you're only doing it on the gas side, no need for stainless.  Brass QDs at Home Despot are much cheeper.

If you're doing it on the liquid side, I'd go stainless.

Check out the quick disconnects from Kent Systems:

http://www.kentsystems.com/Quick_Couplings.php

They are a lot cheaper than the ones at northernbrewer.  They are twist lock, but I've used them in my system for a little over a year now and have no complaints.

Dang!  I misread your subject line.  Thought you were puttin' up some Mardi Gras photos.  (Hoes Gone Wild!)
