Going to NYC in a couple weeks for vacation - what are the top tap houses / breweries I need to check out while in town.  I will be staying by Times Square.

Thanks

Blind Tiger in the West Village is my favorite
Rattle and Hum near the Empire State Building
The Gingerman also near there
Heartland Brewing Co has good food and average to good beer
Valhalla is close to Times Square, good selection, but very noisy
That's a good start.  Good beer bars are more common than brew pubs.

The pony bar, 8th ave at 44th, I believe. Excellent taps and very serious about their beer.

Do not go to new York beer company. That is some Disney type tgif-esque place.

Especially if you like sours, try Jimmy 's 33? I know I have the number wrong, but Jimmy's ##. It's down in the east village. N.Y.homebrewers guild meets their, I believe.

There are many fine places in Williamsburg in Brooklyn. Brooklyn Brewing (check the hours),Mugs Ale house, Spuytin Duyvel, and Barcade. Those are fairly close together, and just over the East River.

You'll be close to St. Andrews on W 46th.  Good beer, scotch line up.  food resonable.

There is a Belgian Beer bar on 43rd just to the east of Times Square that has nice fresh Belgian beers on tap, although mostly mainstream, and some really good appetizers.  I'd never had better roasted mussels on the half shell.
We went to Biererria (a Mario Battali restaurant and brew pub by the Flat Iron Bldg) last year.  I have better beer at home, but the food and atmosphere were great.

That Belgian Bar is called BXL.  It's a door or two away from Heartland, just a walk through the crowds from Times Square.

There are some good recomendations above. I dont think you can go wrong with any of them.  I would aslo add the burp castle to the list.  We went to the Alewife in Long Island city, a quick subway ride from times square, this weekend for the first time.  They have a good selection and decent prices and is more low key. We went to an event with unlimited tastings so we didnt eat their food, but it looked good. We stopped at Rattle and Hum on the way home. They have a good beer selection but the wife wasnt too happy about the $17 burger i had, but I was pretty drunk hungry.

How could I forget the historic/touristy Mcsorley's Ale house. Go once just to see it.

We have loved the food and beer in the bar room in the front of Gramercy Tavern. Once again, a spendy place, but worth it.

My wife is currently up there for work. She was at the gingerman last night and did some bar hopping in the east village.

I told her to come back with good beer or don't come back at all. She already bought the beer.
