a question about entering a beer in a homebrew comp *dunce*
« on: April 26, 2013, 11:32:33 am »
ok, i haven't entered a homebrew comp in about 4 years.

i want to enter an ipa, but i'm wanitng to use irish ale yeast to ferment it.

if the comp follows bjcp guidelines, is that not acceptable, risky or totally fine?

thanks in advance.

sorry for such an off the wall, weird question.

If it tastes like an IPA, it doesn't matter what ingredients you used.  The judges will only judge the beer by what it tastes like.

thanks denny.

btw, i brewed a couple beers with your yeast (ipa and dipa) and sent a few bottles out to friends and they got rave reviews.

The guidelines also instruct judges to expect a range of interpretation within each style and not to view a style too narrowly. Irish vs American or British yeast is definitely a small interpretation. And chances are near 100% that the judges won't know you used a different yeast. They only occasionally ask to see recipes.
