Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear that, Denny. And bummed that I won't see you at NHC, of course, but it certainly puts things in perspective. Warm fuzzies headed your way.

Thanks, all.

Know what you mean, Jeff.  My father in law died Memorial Day.  My mom was the last parent between us.
My parents passed away in the 1980's when relatively young. Susan's are both 90 years old now. In retrospect, I don't know what is worse to witness as as a child.

Aww man, that's a bummer, Denny. Sorry for your loss...I dread the day either of my parents die...I hate the thought...

We do have a room! It's one of the ballrooms even, so break out some beers and make sure we have everything we need to have some fun. I'm trying to secure some signage to make it more apparent.

Hey folks. any idea when we are going to try to make this meetup happen? I'm starting my final planning and my wife would like to know when I will be MIA.

So the last seminar for the day gets over at 5:30pm but I don't know when the competition judging will be done.  I'm going to definitely grab some food real quick and guess I'll be there around 6:15-6:30pm.  Is there an official start time?

I'm assuming 6-ish since we were talking about buying food at Reading Terminal to bring back to our meeting place. All first round beer judging will be done in the morning session. Only BOS, cider and mead will be judged in the afternoon session, so lots of judges will probably have the afternoon free.

I managed to pack 18 12floz bottles into a suitcase that I lined with multiple layers of foam. Each bottle was wrapped in a sock and then two layers of bubble wrap. The case is packed tightly enough that nothing moves at all.

I am now accepting bets on how many bottles arrive in philly.

I have seen a couple of references that this is only the second NHC on the East Coast. One was in the Philly Beer Scene, and mentioned the Manchester NH conf. as the first.

What about Baltimore and Orlando (which is about as close to the Atlantic as Manchester)?

sounds similar to what I had last year flying to NHC.  Lots of effort on a great packing job and padding.  I arrived at Sea-Tac to zero broken/missing bottles.  However I found TSA had unpacked each bottle, including taking each out of their Zip-Loc and had then placed all the bottles back on top of the clothes and shoved all the packing material into a pile in one corner.  So, basically my bottles were really well protected for the drive from my house to the Wichita airport.  I'm still astonished I had no breakage, as several bottles were definitely touching each other.

Carry-on only for me this year; no beer.  Next year I'll drive.

cheers--
--Michael

My bet is they all arrive to Philly...they just may not be intact.  ;D

Somebody send Drew a PM about the meetup.  Since I'm not gonna be there, the ball's in his court.

Anyone have any thoughts if I can bring a keg on SEPTA? Trying to figure out best way to get it down there.

I don't believe they allow alcohol to be transported on public transportation.  I may be wrong, though, you could call them and find out.  Bus or train?
