Infection risk
« on: June 08, 2013, 01:06:29 pm »
Today I took my first test sample before actually bottling and the neurotic self chimed in. While I sanitized everything part of me assumes I somehow infected the beer. I had to push the bung in a few times, wipe the top of carboy to dry etc. Has anyone (whose had an infected batch) been able to pinpoint why it happened and how easy is it to do?

Keep a spray bottle of Star San and spray everything down. Frankly, I think it's kinda tough to infect a beer post-ferment unless you are grossly sloppy with your sanitation.

Only one. That was because I racked a beer after cutting lumber in the same room. No amount of planning can entirely compensate for stupidity.

Beer is like porn. You can buy it, but it's more fun to make your own.
