Spartanburg SC Beer-Out Plastic Piece

(1/2) > >>

saintpierre:
I acquired a new keg that happens to be a Firestone Spartanburg SC.  Upon replacing the o-rings and cleaning I noticed the beer-out side has a plastic filler piece that I have never seen before on any of my other kegs.

It's in the shape of an upside down funnel and was positioned between the dip tube and the poppet/post.

The "piece" is pretty beat up and cracked and I am not too keen on running beer through this thing.  Anyone... a) seen this before?
b) know where to find a replacement part?
c) have ideas on a work around?

Most of my kegs are Firestone pin-locks (made in Spartanburg, SC), and I've never seen anything like you're describing.  Got a pic?
As long as the poppet seals, you could probably leave that piece out.

Maybe someone couldn't find a replacement for a faulty poppet, and this was a homemade fix?  (Just a wild guess.)

Just had the same issue.  Stainless washer and an o-ring and you're good to go.

Much more detail in the link.

No.  For whatever reason, some kegs were made with a tapered plastic gas-in dip tube.

Is this what you are talking about?

If so, be aware that they come in two different sizes (one is a bit longer than the other, and I believe it can be sanded down successfully if necessary).  My own experience is that the longer keg posts which require the longer spacers can be swapped out for the shorter "Type C" keg posts (available from Northern Brewer, etc.) which take the shorter spacers.
