Australian summer hops?
« on: September 13, 2013, 06:55:08 pm »
Has anyone ever used these? Can ya give me any feedback on the characteristics when used at different intervals/times?
Imported from Australia, this gentle aromatic lends unique light apricot and melon notes to beer when used late in the boil. Great for IPA styles and lagers. Average Alpha acid: 5%.

I just posted my tasting notes in another thread:

http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/forum/index.php?topic=16663.msg212712#msg212712

In summary, I didn't get any of the fruit notes they mention in the description. I got vanilla, dry spiciness, cedar/wood and some earthiness. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't the IPA/APA type hop I was expecting. It was a really unique flavor for a hop variety and would be really fun to try in a whole bunch of different styles.
