Good article for jokes, but not for actual analysis.  The entire study was based on asking 105 patients in one low-income area ER what they were drinking.  Of course you're going to have a high number of inexpensive beverage choices there.

If they ran this survey at a Beverley Hills ER, we'd probably be discussing why so many people get loaded on expensive champagne and wine before heading to the ER.  LOL

I think it would be interesting to know why "this research can't be done"?  Makes me wonder how many other things can't be researched for that same unspoken reasons.

This isn't really news to ER doctors though.  I remember comments being made by friends of mine about standing bets about who could identify the beverage involved in an injury before speaking to the patient.  After just a few weekends they said they were all pretty accurate.  It probably varies by location based on what is cheapest in any given place.

I think I like the idea of a cash bar, serving craft beer, at places where a long wait is expected.  The DMV, Target and the grocery store checkout on a Saturday morning would be good choices
