I am confused by your hydrometer. Usually in brewing, we use either Specific Gravity (notated as 1.0xx) or Plato (notated as whole numbers).
Either way, the numbers should go down as it is fermenting, and should end at about 1.012 (SG) or 3 (Plato).
If you started at 5, and ended at 10, something is quite wrong.
Without pictures, I don't know if we can understand what you are reading with your hydrometer, so I don't know if we can help.
According to your original post, you brewed this one week ago. If that is the case, I would leave it at least another week before attempting to take any gravity readings. Even if it is done, it needs some time to mature.
