Au pair?
« on: October 24, 2013, 01:59:24 am »
We're due for baby #3 in April, and my wife and I have been thinking about hiring an au pair to help out around the house. Do any of you guys know someone (male or female, aged between 17 and 30) who would be interested in coming over between now and May 1st? Pay is typically 300 eur/month, basically pocket money. Work is on a part-time (20 hr/week) basis. Here's a good overview of what is involved: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Au_pair

Anybody have a niece or nephew who is super great with kids and wants to learn French?

I saw that movie once.  I don't need those girls taking care of my kids, although my 20 year old would love it.   8)

For who have never heard of it (hopefully most of you) it's an old British "B" movie called Au Pair Girls.  No real plot just numerous situations to have girls take off all their clothes.

Good luck in your search!

Sadly, no.  Sounds like a great opportunity for someone, but I wouldn't saddle you with my niece who might be interested :)

Phil, I'm sure you have thought of this, but aren't there agencies in the EU that specialize in AuPairs?  How long are you planning on needing one?

It's interesting that Au Pair specifically relates to a person from another country (than the one they are working in). I think that part of the definition has been lost here.

Phil,

Sorry I got nothing. My younger sister is the right age but she just scored a sweet scholarship and is off to college next year.

Yeah we signed up for a bunch of those agencies but I'd prefer to find somebody through people I know and/or respect.

My friend Mary says she would be happy to pop in for a few months...

My oldest daughter did that for a school year in an Austrian ski village.  It was a great year for her.  But sorry, all out of daughters.
