Can't get cider to sparkle
« on: December 01, 2013, 01:51:32 pm »
Made with "apple juice from concentrate".  forced 35 psi at 42 degrees. Very hard to dispense and no bubbles. Do I need to add minerals to give the bubbles something to hold onto?
Primary:On Reflection APA
Lagering: Vienna
Drinking: Whenever I'm not working or driving

what do you mean by hard to dispense? and no bubbles?

cider will not hold a head like beer, it might not even form one at all.

How long have you been carbing it?

Yeah, no head usually in cider - you'll get foam and then it falls flat almost immediately, the key is to make sure that it continues bubbling during the whole pint.

If you want a head - go for maltodextrin powder.

If your problem is no bubbles whatsoever ... well, I'd wonder if you don't have a leak in there? How did you force it?

"Very hard to dispense" makes me think there is a blockage in the keg/line.
