No, not acceptable.  I told my kids if I didn't hear them say thank you they would have to go back and knock again just for that.  They didn't forget.

I walked about 2 miles with my little guys. Fun had by all. My grandson and his buddy collected about 10 lbs of candy each. It was a good night.

Until the next morning and they weigh them again but this time there's only 8 lbs.  Ron's response, "Contents may experience settling overnight"

I was going to say I think they first made those in the 70s.  Shipped them on a slow boat to Hawaii apparently.

Despite the rain, we still gave out well over 1000 pieces of candy.  I try for one piece per kid, but the MIL and my kids might have been generous.  Slow at first, but a constant stream from 5:30 to 7:30 when we ran out.  People were still going door to door at 8:30 when I brought in the pumpkins and shut off the lights.

Trick-or-treating is pretty much unheard of in Belgium, but one local group of 4 kids is trying to change that. But they're even more direct than American kids. They knocked on our door and when I answered, they shouted, "Geef mij snoep!" Which literally translates to, "Give me candy!"

and kind of more appropriate to the original idea behind trick or treating. politeness did not enter into it. It was the night when the veil was thin and all sorts of ghosts and goblins might be wandering around. If a little ghosty showed up at your door and you DIDN'T have a little something sweet, well that's when the tricks come into it.

We get so many kids coming by there's no candy to waste on the bust-outs who think all they need is a plastic shopping bag and they get free stuff. Put some effort into it.  Seriously, I had some lady tell me last night she was dressed as a hungry college student.  That doesn't fly.

One year we gave out glow in the dark skeletons. They were cheaper than decent candy and I think the kids liked it since they had a bunch of candy anyway.

Sounds like you get hit like we do.  We had a couple years about 4 years ago where NBC came out to film because of the hordes.  It's like locusts when the weather is good.
