Jim, I'm with ya as I'm starting to jump into water chemistry too!  I'm reading Palmer's new Water book and got a little overwhelmed.  It's like being back in class, as I started taking notes while reading the book and browsing websites such as Martin's Bru'n Water and his Water Knowledge page.

The key for me, was understanding the RA.  From there, everything else started to fall into place for me and things started to make a little more sense to me.  I'm sure once I get my water report, I'll be posting it and asking a truck load of questions.

I'm not sure but I think RA stands for residual alkalinity. That is just about the extent of my beer chemistry expertise

I've been wondering about the course as well.  Yesterday I had to go back into my old emails to make sure I wasn't forgetting to do something (I started to worry that I missed the course).  The registration email said that more info will be sent out before the course starts.  I guess the prof. will be busy this weekend.

Sounds interesting but I'm one of those guys who can understand the concepts but glazes over once you start wading into the details of the science. I received my BA in political science for a reason...

Just saw on my Yahoo email that the course starts tomorrow and the course materials are on the website.

Well that was fun! took the self assessment test. 12 questions, got 7 correct and 5 incorrect. The ones I got wrong were, not surprisingly, the more hard sciency ones.

However I will say that there is one question on there that is scored very strangely indeed. It's not wrong, but it's not a clear cut 1 answer that is correct all the rest are incorrect situation. I'll be curious to hear what others experience with it.

I won't say which one at this time because I'd hate to be a spoiler.
