I can't afford bulk and I don't have the room to store them. I buy by the pound, ordered thru my LHBS. They usually come from Brew Craft or Hop Heaven. Price varies depending on type.

One hop for IPA ? If forced to it would probably be cascade or centennial because most of the other are best when paired with a dance partner or two. My house IPA is Simcoe Mosaic and Amarillo

I'd suggest trying a few until you find what you like then stock up. Otherwise you end up giving away hops you don't like. Guess how I know that LOL

For bulk hops I use Yakima Valley Hops, Hops Direct and Freshops primarily. Farmhouse Brewing Supply and Nikobrew also have a decent selection.

I wouldn't brew a single-hopped IPA, because I really feel like you need some layers of complexity in the hops. If I had to choose one hop as a base for all my IPAs I'd probably go with Amarillo. But there are lots of other options as well. Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic, Citra, Simcoe, Cascade, Apollo, Columbus and Centennial are all at home in any IPA.

Here's a couple good sites for hop purchasing

www.hopsdirect.com

www.freshops.com

Centennial is my favorite IPA hop but if you are looking for Piny I'd go with Centennial and Simcoe as finishing hops.

I'm not a big fan of Zythos, personally.

My favorite place to buy hops is: http://www.yakimavalleyhops.com/default.asp

Great prices, great service.  If I absolutely had to be limited to one hop it would be Citra.

www.yakimavalleyhops.com  has a pretty solid selection. I've used them before among others. Centennial would always be one of my first choices to bitter and finish an IPA with, though blending finishing hops gives a lot more complexity of flavor and aroma. Centennial are a "super Cascade" that have a higher AA% and are more citrusy than Cascade IMO.  Zythos (which is actually a hop blend) would do nicely as well for a single hop IPA. Since you mentioned that you like piney IPAs, Chinook is a very piney hop which would definitely qualify.

thats why i was thinking about buying a few bulk hops, then just picking up the grain and yeast at my local homebrew store.

And sadly I could not drink your IPA. :(

Citra can be a little "cat boxy" for me. But I think it's all about how it's handled or teamed up with or aged.

When I first tried simcoe I though "nasty" ! Then a couple weeks later it turned grapefruit and was super

I can do citra in moderate doses but not all citra.
