looks like i'm going to use chinook, cascade, and centennial. you think 4oz of each hop is enough for a ten gallon batch?

It really depends on when you add them all. if you added them all at the beggining of the boil then probably to much, but if you do them all as aroma and flavour hops then probably not

I mentioned to use 2 oz Chinook to bitter, then to finish with the rest.  By finish, start adding the blend with 15 minutes left, incrementally until flameout.  Then add some more to dry hop.  Not too much done that way.

The best place I've found is Hop Heaven from Ted Hausotter. Ted is very knowledgeable about what he sells and more importantly very nice and accommodating.

I can only find this store on eBay, does Ted have a website?

thanks

tom

THIS^^^  I've known Ted for years and started buying from him a few years ago.  Without a doubt, the best quality hops I've ever gotten.

I source most of my West Coast style hops from Ted. Wasn't aware he sold to homebrewers.

I think the market he kind of targets is stuff like bulk buys from homebrew clubs. I guess I just use that much hops lol.

I came across him last year when I was trying to track down some Meridian. This year he's supposed to be getting Mandarina Bavaria from Germany.

I've bought bulk from both hopsdirect and freshhops. I've liked the hops I've received from both. Very reasonable prices. I've also used Farmhouse Brewing Supply when I need a few ounces at a reasonable prices. They sell in 4oz packs at a fair price. My local shops are typically selling at $2-4 per ounce.

www.hopsdirect.com

Good (not great) prices.  And superfast shipping.  I'm in the same state, but generally get my hops the next day if ordered before noon.

Best deal on bulk hops ever? Growing my own! I have cascade and galena right now. It takes 3 years for a good harvest but they are relatively trouble free. You need to give them good fertility and a fair amount of sun. I also learned the hard way that if you have free range chickens fence them off when they first come up in spring. They are gorgeous ( those are them as my avitar) i dry them on screens with a fan in my cellar and then use a vacuum sealer in one ounce packages and freeze them. The rhizomes are pretty cheap and my 4 year old cascade vine yields are great. You do need to build a trellis. I use a twelve foot 4x4 and 4" x2" green fencing
Don't let the bastards cheer you up.
