I want YOU to run for the AHA Governing Committee!
« on: November 12, 2013, 06:30:18 pm »
Howdy citizens, AHA Governing Committee Chair Jake Keeler here.
I wanted to remind everyone that we are still taking nominations for the 2014 AHAGC elections.

There are 8 open seats this year, and we'd love to add some new faces to the mix.  I can say without hesitation or doubt, that serving on the AHAGC has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done as a homebrewer.  It's way to help give back to the AHA, the awesome members, and to this wicked-awesome hobby and community.

The deadline is November 30th - please consider throwing your name in the hat for consideration.

To learn how to nominate yourself, please visit this link: http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/pages/community/news/show?title=aha-governing-committee-2014-candidate-nominations

Cheers!

Bumped to be sure it stays noticeable....

I'm coming into my 9th (and final) year on the GC.  If you don't think you can make a difference, look at this forum.  It was one of my main focuses when I got on the GC and the AHA took it seriously.  We now have the best homebrewing forum on the web.  Now, it's YOUR turn to make a difference for other homebrewers.  And like Jake said, it's personally fun and rewarding.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but after 9 years, don't you think I deserve a year off?

you said "final" - which is why I asked if you were planning to run again.  You've done a great job and I hope you serve again.

...that's all I'm saying, and I bet the majority of the board agrees with me.

cheers--

Members whose terms have expired, not necessarily term limited...some may choose to run again.

I know I do.  Denny has done quite a bit for our organization.  I wish him to do as he pleases.  Time tends to crowd in as we get older and we never seem to have the time to do all the things we wish to do. :)  And then, times up!

I appreciate all the kind words.  I have to take at least a year off since I'm term limited.  That will give me a chance to consider if I will run again.

This is a great opportunity for anyone wishing to make a difference in the AHA.

We have some real challenges dealing with continued growth and the popularity of homebrewing in general. These are good challenges to have, but it makes for some tough decisions. This year we have more seats available than I can ever remember, and we need your help filling them. Please consider this great opportunity and make a nomination!

Cheers! :)

Describe some of the time and travel requirements please.

1 hour per month on the phone (unless you're the Chair/Vice/Secretary/Gary - in which case there's another phone call because Jake, Roxanne, Gary and I love each that much.)

1 stonkingly huge meeting every year on the Weds before the Conference. So you're required to travel to the meeting. There is a stipend that flucuates to cover some of the cost and you receive a free ticket to the Conference in exchange for a couple of simple duties.

Plus there's time to make things that your committees work on happen, but that's all going to be dependent on what you've committed to: for instance, the Competition guys - that's a ton of work.
